James Checco and his research group earned a Maximizing Investigators' Research Award (MIRA) for Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), part of the National Institutes of Health.
The award increases the efficiency of NIGMS funding by providing investigators with greater stability and flexibility, enhancing scientific productivity and the chances for important breakthroughs. The program will also help distribute funding more widely among the nation's highly talented and promising investigators.
Checco's research focuses on understanding neuropeptides and peptide hormones that act as cell-to-cell signaling molecules.
